On December 10, 2024 Kenmore Community Club hosted the King County Executive’s 23rd Annual John D. Spellman Awards for Historic Preservation. The Historic Preservation Program was formed in 1978. The program’s goal is to protect historic properties in King County.  The award ceremony’s goal is to showcase the exceptional stories, places, and people who work in historic preservation projects and efforts.  The award categories included “Legacy Business”, “Rehabilitation”, “Preservation Partnerships”, and “Career Achievement”.

Kenmore Air, received the award for “Legacy Business”. Kenmore Air was founded in 1946 with humble beginnings and has grown into a highly regarded institution in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Stephanie Lucash, Deputy City Manager, shared that Kenmore Air ” with their rich history plays a vital role and is a cornerstone of the Kenmore Community as a multigenerational family enterprise. For 80 years they have served as a great partner for the city and we look forward to 80 more years of partnership”. Upon receiving the award, Todd Banks, a longtime, dedicated family owner shared “on behalf of his family and grandfather, their greatest company value is their employees and customers”. Congratulations to Kenmore Air!

The Kenmore Community Club, designated a historic landmark in 2014, opened in 1930 and is home to community programming, meetings, and more. The mission of the Club is to foster inclusive community participation by preserving and proffering a historic landmark facility for arts, youth, education, civics, recreation, celebration, worship, and locally based human services that elevate personal and collective well-being in our community.
